Roof Collapse at the Holland Rod & Gun Club.

Holland-Rod-and-Gun-Club-pavilion-with-collapsed-roof. Today, shortly after 2 p.m., an I-Reporter of the Holland blog discovered the collapsed roof of one of the two pavilions at the Holland Rod & Gun Club (HRGC) at the end of Wales Road.
I called Stu Perry, nominee for the 2011 President position of the HRGC at the upcoming elections next Sunday, February 20, 2011. Stu had no idea about the collapsed roof and was surprised. Read more»

Maybe J&G can drop by and lend a FREE hand to the community when it comes time to putting it back up.

Roof Collapse
Did it fail because perhaps it was built by Brian Johnson, Scott G, and Kyle R'S Construction company? Also called J and G Construction who the town pays the health insurance, pensions, and other benefits for the Directors of J and G named above?

Enough Already!!
While the bad issues some of you have been commenting about may be true, how about saying something favorable for the good things the Highway guys have & are doin such as plowing out PRIVATE ROADS which the town is NOT RESPONSIBLE to do. Whether you pay taxes or not, the law says private roads DO NOT have to be maintained by a town. Yet the Highway crew made it possible for the people of Holland to get out of their roads and travel everyday. Not everything is all bad as you commentors make it seem. I'm grateful to be able to drive to/from work everyday & elsewhere on the weekends because my private road is plowed & sanded. And I don't care who, under any circumstance, is clearing the road as long as the job is getting done. Tks Highway Dept. He who lives in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Spinning Wheel
Hey Holland Highway ...Try to stop plowing private roads and you will be on the unemployment line. Earl made the same threat 10 years ago and learned the town must plow private ways used by the public as most of the town residents live on private roads. Nice threat though Brian.

Private road Vs private or common driveway
Please do not confuse private roads with private or common driveway. The private road can provide frontage for building lots and the driveway can not. See land-gate. A private road in Holland is a public way and therefore maintained by the town. A private driveway is not a public way and a common driveway can not provide frontage to build.

My 2 cents
I have looked at this site a few times. I loved seeing the pics from the fishing derby, that fish was HUGE! I understand that there is a lot of tension between Frei, LaMountain, town officials etc. I just wanted you all to know that the ongoing he said, she said.....true or not......takes up a lot of this site and makes it hard for people like me to want to come back often. For one thing, Brian's huge picture each time I log on is disturbing. I appreciate that we are being informed of litigations, etc but I would much prefer those types of articles be at a place I can go and click, not the first thing I see. I loved seeing the Christmas lights in town and hope that we will put up enough next year to get our picture in it too. :) I am a believer in the good, and what will make us a tighter community, not the things that will divide us more. I realize anyone can argue that there is some of each on this blog, and those people would be right, however if everything leans towards what's wrong, it will not help to bring the new readers that want to also know what's right. What's going on at the Senior Center? Anything new at the church doing? Who are the upcoming stars of Holland baseball and softball? Who are the wonderful people that volunteer in town with little appreciation? I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see more of that on the front page. In turn, it would allow me to check out other parts which I don't really want to read, but would because I'm already here. I want an education that makes me feel better, not worse. I'm not sure if my comments will be appreciated, but as the saying goes....You get more bees with honey.

Brenda, first of all, your comment is appreciated. I also commend you for signing your comment with your name.

You wrote, “I am a believer in the good, and what will make us a tighter community, not the things that will divide us more.”
Brenda, we all would like to just read about big catches, Christmas lights, and rising stars in the local sports arenas.
However, for a few individuals in this town, such as the Bunn family, the LaMountains, Henry Moselsky, Stacy Quinones, myself, and I’m sure there are others, life was/is a constant battle.
Not because these individuals were/are bad people or because they, “don’t play by the rules,” or “file frivolous lawsuits,” as James Wettlaufer and Earl Johnson want you to believe, but because they have/had something and/or, they do/did things the rest does/did not have or does/did not dare to do.
Exposing corruption perpetrated by town officials and documenting the struggle by some because of it is the primary purpose of the Holland Blog as the community needs to know.
In your comment you talk about, “tension,” and the, “ongoing he said, she said,” between the town officials and the aforementioned.
Your nomenclature is off, what is taking place is gross abuse of power and rampant corruption, and lately raw violence!
If I read you right, these “things” here on the blog are dividing our community in your opinion, and the stories about big catches and Christmas lights make us a tighter community?
One of the definitions of “community” is:
“A body of people in agreement as to goals, living in the same place under the same laws and regulations.”
Your definition would be(?):
“A body of people of which some are entitled to special privileges and have the right to oppress others. Laws and regulations apply for some and not to others; however, there is a common right, the right to be happy even for the oppressed.(?)”
Ask yourself Brenda; do you think that the community will get tighter by silencing the victims and condoning corruption (?),
OR,
do you think that our community will get tighter by rooting out corruption and injustice??
You wrote:

Would you click? Really?
You also wrote:

Brenda, how about bringing change so there is not so much stuff to write about that “divides” us and more about positive events?
For starters, how about doing your civic duty?
According to the official record, you have not attended any annual town meetings or any town elections since I keep track of this information, (2007).
And, if you really, “LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see more of that [senior center, church, upcoming baseball-, softball-stars, and the wonderful people that volunteer in town] on the front page,” - as I would too -, please write about any events, take some pictures, and email everything to me and I will post it with your name for the community to enjoy.
This can be your blog too; just email me your piece.
I just have limited time to write, unfortunately.
And, thanks again Brenda for your comment.

Eureka!!!!
Brenda Palmer..welcome to the blog. In an ethical community the things you ask for are the norm. Not so here in Holland where taxpayers, police chiefs, and firefighters go to prison and allegedly burn down buildings.
Our selectmen fraudulently convey town treasures to their families and our Selectmen lie to the voters and change zoning for friends at the expense of specialy zoned environmentally sensitive conservation land.
This is our community. Those idealistic American virtues you wish to see on the blog are great. All readers should contribute stories and photos as Peter said.
You are a breath of fresh air on the Blog Brenda.
I think YOU should run against Wettlaugher for Selectman in the next election. Holland NEEDS people like you.
