R.I.P. Mary Jo
Mary Jo Kopechne.. Somehow she was my first thought the morning after learning that the late Kennedy's senate seat has once again become the "seat of the people".
Politics aside..Our Country felt they owed the Kennedy's something after they gave the lives of 3 of their Sons in the service of our nation. Young Joseph died in a reckless but heroic manner in WWII while volunteering for hazardous duty.
So young Miss Mary Jo was caught up in the national sympathy.. and we all looked the other way and gave Ted a pass in her death. ..He was scum to leave her to suffocate. There were neighbors close enough to the bridge where the car was upside down partially submerged. Investigations revealed that she would have been rescued if Ted did not go into "cover up mode" instantly for his indiscretions. All he had to do was knock on the neighbors door. The lights were burning on the porch..!
We all know Teddy was OUI and he knew there was no more ferry that night as he and Miss Mary Jo went for a midnight ride.. That does not matter.!! What does matter is that young Miss Mary Jo died of lack of oxygen as she sat in the air bubble in that upside down Oldsmobile waiting for Edward to come to her rescue. Ted who swam across the channel that night without so much as summoning aid , .., went back to a warm bed in his Hotel to sleep off his drunken stupor as the oxygen ran out on Mary Jo who was scraping and leaving claw marks in the floor of the car that was sitting on its roof.. That is the Greatest Horror here. Mary Jo.. Waiting for Ted to come help...as the oxygen was depleted a pink froth formed around her nostrils. The Kennedys would wisk Mary Joe's lifeless body out of state before an autopsy could be performed which according to reports of medical folks who saw her likely would have shown the cause of death to be suffocation not drowning.
The other horror here is America and our mis-directed sympathy. We all looked the other way on Ted's criminal behavior and lies. We all looked shamefully at our shoes as we accepted the Kennedys cover-up story without question and opened the floodgates to more of that conduct in our Government. Remember Bill Clinton made lying seem fashionable with Monica. Scum is acceptable to be occupying Seats of power in all levels of our Govt. Ted was a pioneer in that aspect.Ted forged that with his ever expanding girth and power in the Senate.
And Ted did not learn as we all know of his later involvement with the Will Kennedy-Smith incident where Ted participated in a drunken party where a young lady was allegedly raped on the gravel driveway of the Kennedy Clans Palm Beach home.
In all of this Mary Jo Kopehne was sacrificed.. and I have not forgotten her.
So in Memory of Mary Jo . We have sent an Honest Man to Washington to take back the Kennedy's seat . It was Miss Mary Jo I thought of as I cast my vote. It should have happened 40 plus years ago..
Also I voted in Memory of the Amirault Family, and Bernard Baran who were victims of the witch hunt led by Judge Daniel Ford and Martha Coakly.whose careers were made by sending innocent people to prison and their continued destruction of innocent lives.
