Indy Tee'd the bear.
Yea Peter It seems that alot of things happen around me. Anyhow this house was designed to maximize the view of the lake and the most important room in the house (master bathroom) is on the lower level with the seat of honor commanding an unobstructed view of the lake behind an 24 "x 48" anodized bronze glass window.. To see this animal first thing in the morning my first thought was Machoe's Black dog was out for her morning constitutional. As I left the master bath I opened the slider in the master suite to let Indy (who sleeps with me) out for his morning routine. As indy cleared the door to the lower patio I realized the at the same time Indy did that it was not Chris's dog.

As I called out loudly to my boys who were sleeping in the loft on the third level on the other side of this house Indy started barking towards the Bear. (from a distance). I think it was more my loud calling to the boys than Indy's barking but the bear slowly in that " I am a bear" kinda way made his way over to the tree on the corner of our beach (south basin) and started to climb in an unhurried way. As he climbed the tree 11 year old Eric said to me "look dad ..just like a squirrel..
I called Holland dispatch and was told that bear sightings are common and to cover all trash and take in bird feeders. I hung up and thought that was the end of it. I did not know that My good neighbor Bill Royal had discovered the claw marks ot his stairs leading from the lake. He heard me calling my boys to see the bear and came and saw it for himself. He went for a ride and saw Officer Eric Stanley who assists the workers in the morning when they open Hoyts.
Bill reported the bear to Officer Stanley who called fisheries and wildlife. I have seen some of these black bear stories in the media lately and quite a few times we end up with a dead bear. Officer Stanely all but vowed that no harm would come to the bear. A Man of his word he asked everyone to disperse and leave the bear alone. I put Indy inside as I wondered why he could not climb like a bear. Indy is a 175 pound 8 year old German Shepheard.
A couple hours later the bear (like the rest of us) was sick of being rained on and he climbed down the tree and made his way back into our community. I have seen bald eagles, beavers, herron??? or some other long legged long billed bird and now a black bear from behind that anodized glass facing the lake each morning.

We are fortunate to have lived 15 yrs in such a place. I will miss it here.

How will the Flying J and other predatory development affect that wild population who also does not vote.??

Bear Skin
That Bear skin is much nicer than the Cow Skin...It looks good on the floor in front of the fireplace...

Telegram Pic....
It was nice to see the Bear in the Telegram on Saturday...But the bear story and accompanying photo's were the copywrited property of the Holland Blog or 01521.com.
When the Southbridge evening News used a story off the Blog about Gleason and his OUI they at least mentioned the fact that they got the story from a local blog that "uses the town's zip code as it's url." The SEN did not mention the web address but they covered themselves regarding the copywrite laws after the Blog scooped them on the Gleason resignation.

The telegram did ask for permission to use the picture. The only way they could have known the bear was on our beach was to read it on this Blog who ran the story exclusively using those awesome pictures that Dana Manning once again captured as photographer for this Blog.

. The only reason this blog @ 01521.com exists was because Earl Johnson, Wettlaufer and other Holland officials preassured Mr James Boder at the Telegram into censoring the truth we posted at their Blog about the corruption in Holland.
The telegram violated copywrite law and proffesional courtesy when they failed to mentioned this blog by web address as the source of the Photo and information in their caption that they published about the bear on 1 August.
The New York Times must be having really tough times when they need to plagerize this blog for their information.

No Plagiarism
You got it all wrong Jim. The bear photo and caption were sent to T&G per my request. Peter, Dana, I and T&G editors were all in agreement what would be submitted and used in Saturday's newspaper. I was the one who told Peter about the bear to begin with. Unfortunately I was already out of town when I rec'd a cellphone call about it and no T&G photographer was available tol come to Holland @ the time Friday. So don't blame the NYT (owners of T&G) for something they aren't responsible for. Peter (and Dana) agreed to help me out.

01521.com
Patty,, Thanks for your response....The Info and pic came from the Blog with permission from Peter and Dana I know.. However you need to mention the photographer (which you did) and you should have mentioned 01521.com as the info about where the bear was came from the blog. The police report was made by Bill Royal who as far as I know never mentioned my name to officer Stanley. Nobody either reporter or photographer was there from the T & G. You should have mentioned the Blog by It's web address. Anyhow Patty...Thanks again for responding
