Tonight's meeting was interrupted at 19:15 hours as Jack Keough, the building inspector and zoning officer, requested an executive session. The project to improve Sturbridge Road that entered the planning stage a year ago is taking on shape. The selectboard also announced extended Kindergarten hours beginning in 2010, read more»

Selectmans Meet
I wonder whats up with executive session with our building inspector?

I have dealt with this man on several occasions and he seems quite competent with building code related matters. However I think he should not be the Zoning enforcement officer.

I still do not understand how building permits were ever issued to build homes on land with no frontage. But Selectman Johnson should give Mr Keough a raise.

The cost to clear land and build roads inculding the installation of drainage and underground utilities is about 500.00 per lineal foot. How many feet does the town plan to do over? All day kindergarten should be good for the working Moms.

No Zoning Map
Involved watchdog, Jack Keough actually denied initially building permits for the two houses the Johnson family illegally built off of Stafford Road. It was only after the Zoning Board of Appeals granted a special permit to "replace" a structure that did not exist when Keough issued a building permit. Later on Earl Johnson with the help of the Planning Board fashioned the zoning bylaws in a way that it was no longer obvious that drive ways can not provide frontage and thereafter illegally subdivided the infamous landlocked parcel off of Stafford Road. However, when other parties tried to use a common driveway as frontage they did so to no avail. Earl Johnson was a member of the Planning Board at that time. To read the whole story which is known as Johnson LandGate click on "Johnson LandGate" on the left under "Main Menu."

Back to last night's meeting. Since the voters rezoned some of the land years ago where the proposed Flying J truck stop is planned to be built, Holland does not have current Zoning Map. The last time I checked on this issue about two weeks ago, the town clerk Kristin LaPlante explained that Jack Keough was working on it and the updated Zoning Map should be available soon....

Does anyone know how the Husband of our Town Clerk is doing???
She is an amazing worker. She is the Town Clerk and the Selectmans Executive Secretary. She works for the tax collectors office AND does the books for our highway department.

AND her husband works for the Highway Department. He seems like a hardworking decent guy. Lets wish him well.

Thanks Mr. Wettlaufer!
I inadvertently called Sturbridge Road Stafford Road and Wettlaufer made me aware of it in the parking lot of the senior citizen center in Wales earlier tonight. I was there to attend the tri-town meeting of the three selectboards. I’m not perfect Mr.Wettlaufer, I just started this blog and I promise you to keep improving this blog and get better at writing posts.

There was no need for you to call me a moron and worse because of it. Where is your respect for yourself and for others? I’m not expecting self deprecation, just basic civilized behavior.

On my way home I remembered the day I was campaigning for the seat on the Planning Board in front of the Town Hall two years ago. At one point in time your wife asked me why I would socialize with James LaMountain calling him uncivilized. I don't know your wife; this was the only interaction I had with her. I get to know you, Mr. Wettlaufer, better by the day and I must say you don't know the first thing about what it means to be "civilized." Freedom of speech does not give you the right to say anything anywhere, think about it…

Keep reading my blog Mr. Wettlaufer, I deliberately choose not to block your IP after your last nasty comment as I don't give up on people, I just distance myself from unhealthy people. By the way, Earl Johnson's IP is not blocked any longer either, I came to realize that it is a good thing if guys like you are allowed to read the blog too.

News coverage of Holland
It's a good thing this blog is available for citizens to learn what's going on in this town because I noticed the newspapers aren't covering it anymore. I was told when there is a news item about Holland it's because BOS et al, had contacted the media. So thank you for keeping us up to date on our town officials. We need to know what they're up to.
