Hi Peter,

I’m out of the office right now but will give you a call to discuss this when I return later this afternoon.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] MVP Action Grants

Dear Mr. Hartzel,

I just read your email about the MVP Action Grants. I wonder if our town would be eligible for a grant to eliminate the problem caused by a wrong design of the culvert at the causeway dividing the Hamilton reservoir into two parts.

This causeway was washed away during the flood of 1955. Back then it had a much bigger opening for the water to flow from the south side to the north side. The reconstruction of the causeway was done with a culvert not large enough to handle the water during heavy rain and at least 20 houses on the south side are prone to be flooded as the causeway turns into a dam!

With the increase of extreme. weather in connection with global warming, it is just a matter of time till these 20+ low laying houses are flooded again which is preventable by enlarging the culvert in the causeway, or adding a second culvert.

We had no functional Planning Board since January and this email is just my inquiry as the secretary of the Planning Board.

Please let me know whether it is too late to apply for a grant. The next meeting of the Planning Board when the Board could discuss this issue will take place either May 11 or May 25.

Sincerely,

Peter Frei, acting secretary
